Our apples are kissed by nature, meaning minimally sprayed, so yes, you'll have some spots and misshaped apples. Better to eat nature than chemicals.
Our apples are minimally sprayed. This season they have only been sprayed 3 times with nonrestricted insecticides and fungicides compared to most orchards that spray 30 times with restricted chemicals. This means a healthier apple but also means that our apples have blemishes and are misshaped. Farmer Nick's motto is "Better to eat nature than chemicals."
The question on what variety of apples are grown here is a longer answer than you may expect. Our special circumstance is that every 2nd to 3rd apple tree in each row is a different variety. Our focus is on restoring the apple tree's health. So you get to pick mystery apples!
APPLE PICKING RULES
-If you pick an apple you don't want place it in the blue bucket that we give instead of throwing it on the ground. We can use those apples for cider and apple chips.
-Do not pick up drops already on the ground
-No climbing the trees
-Do not shake the branches.
-No pets in the orchard.
Below are the rules mandated by the state and the Mass Department of Agriculture that we must enforce to ensure safe picking of apples during this pandemic of Covid-19. Those who don't abide by these rules may be asked to leave the orchard.
Covid-19 Safety Guidelines While in Orchard
1) Mandatory use of cloth face coverings/masks at all times while in the orchard picking apples. That means no eating of apples while picking.
2) Social Distance. Groups must maintain a space of at least six (6) feet from one another while in the orchard. Children must stay with family members.
3) Hand sanitize prior to entering the orchard. There will be stations set up with hand sanitizer and a copy of the rules.
